About

Forestry runs in the family…

Austin Shelby is the owner and lead forester at Spring Branch Forestry. His passion for forest stewardship and serving private landowners was inherited from his father at an early age. Prior to college, Austin worked summers with his father who owns and operates a forestry consulting firm in his home state of Mississippi. After receiving a degree in forestry with emphasis in environmental conservation from Mississippi State University, he looked to the west to continue his career. For over 14 years, Austin served as a forester for the Colorado State Forest Service on the Western Slope of Colorado.

Experience

Putting forest management systems into practice.

During his time with the Colorado State Forest Service, he specialized in working with private landowners as well as cross boundary project implementation with the United States Forest Service. Austin’s knowledge and understanding of forest ecosystems and how they are managed is attributed to a “boots on the ground” work ethic with a history in putting forestry management systems into practice.
Professionalism and the continuation of education are paramount at Spring Branch Forestry. Austin is a Certified Forester through the Society of American Foresters as well as a Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture.

Lifestyle

A passion for the outdoors, the environment and the communities we live in.

Outside of work, you will find Austin and his family enjoying the forest and local community. The seamless transition between work life and personal life is considered by Austin to be a true blessing. Chasing elk in the fall and turkey in the spring provides insight to local wildlife habitat use and requirements. Time spent atop peaks offers unique opportunities to observe landscape scale insect and disease trends. Most importantly, being invested and active in local community has provided countless professional and personal relationships.
